VIENNA, Va., Mar 22, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --
BioNetrix Systems Corporation(TM), the leader in direct
personal authentication, showcased on Capitol Hill yesterday
how biometrics technologies -- fingerprint identification, facial
recognition and voice recognition -- can better protect
consumer privacy in the Internet economy. At an event
sponsored by the Congressional Internet Caucus Advisory
Committee, the company depicted real world scenarios
where users could conduct online banking and trading
transactions and fill prescriptions in a secure environment.

"Unlike passwords, biometrics authenticate people, not
machines," said Peter Bianco, president and CEO of
BioNetrix. "The use of biometrics can prevent hacking
incidents, including the recent highly publicized attacks on
several consumer sites. BioNetrix is pleased to help educate
policymakers about the use of biometrics in protecting
privacy and we applaud Congress for working with the
industry to increase consumer protections."

Led by Congressional Caucus Co-Chairs -- Senators Conrad
Burns (R-MT) and Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and Reps. Bob
Goodlatte (R-VA) and Rick Boucher (D-VA) -- the
"Networking and Tech Fair" brought together industry
leaders, lawmakers and advocacy groups to discuss how
emerging technologies can benefit constituents. The advisory
committee selected BioNetrix to illustrate how biometrics
can help ease consumer privacy concerns.

"Privacy remains the largest policy issue on the Internet,"
said Tim Lordan, Staff Counsel for the Internet Education
Foundation "We are pleased that companies like BioNetrix
recognize the need to address consumer concerns and offer
new technologies designed to protect privacy."

BioNetrix offers a software infrastructure that allows
organizations to conclusively verify users accessing their
critical business information, applications and processes via
corporate networks or the Internet. The revolutionary software
is a flexible, open platform that makes it possible for
companies to manage their existing authentication
technologies more efficiently, and at the same time, migrate
to more conclusive forms of authentication such as smart
cards, tokens and biometrics.

The Congressional Internet Caucus Advisory Committee is a
diverse group of public interest, non-profit and industry groups
working to educate Congress and the public about important
Internet-related policy issues.

About BioNetrix BioNetrix is the only authentication innovator
to provide a Direct Personal Authentication Management
Infrastructure that reduces costs and increases security in all
computing environments through the deployment of
authentication technologies -- from passwords, tokens and
smart cards to biometrics. Network Computing magazine
recently named the BioNetrix Authentication Suite as its
"Editor's Choice" (see BioNetrix January 12th press release).
BioNetrix delivers the security environment government and
corporate organizations need to conclusively verify users and
provide the security backbone necessary for trusted and
secure e-commerce. Privately held, BioNetrix is
headquartered in Vienna, Va., and is accessible via the Web
